Scoring two goals against Mamelodi Sundowns the best moment in my career - Tunisian defender Ali Maaloul

Former Al Ahly standout Ali Maaloul has singled out a Champions League clash with Mamelodi Sundowns as the pinnacle of his career, recalling a memorable brace that helped secure victory.

The Tunisian left-back spent nearly a decade at the Egyptian giants, where he was part of a golden era, lifting five CAF Champions League trophies, before moving on to his current club, CS Sfaxien.

Reflecting on his career highlights, Maaloul told Tunisie Numérique that the 2020 quarter-final tie against Sundowns stood out.

“I played for 9 years in Al-Ahly of Egypt and won many titles, both collective and individual.

“The best match of my career? I have many matches that I love, but I can choose the Sundowns vs. Al Ahly match in 2020 in the Champions League quarter-finals, where I scored two goals in the first leg and one goal in the second leg.”

Statistics from Transfermarkt show Maaloul has featured in eight Champions League matches against Sundowns, contributing two goals and two assists.

Despite the personal highs, he has also suffered four defeats against the South African side, the most he has endured against any single opponent in the competition.
