Al-Nassr have entered the race to sign DR Congo international Yoane Wissa from Premier League outfit Brentford in the current transfer window.
The 28-year-old attacker is eager to depart Brentford this summer, with Newcastle United and Al-Nassr expressing huge interest in the player.
Following a break up in relationship, the Premier League has dropped the attacker from their squad prior to the start of the 2025/26 football campaign.
Newcastle United saw their initial bid rejected, with Brentford demanding for more before sanctioning the transfer. Despite submitting an improved bid of £30 million, btoh parties have yet to agree on a deal.
However, Al-Nassr, who are seeking to bolster their squad for the new season are said to have entered the race to sign Wissa.
According to reports, the Saudi investment fund—Al-Nassr—has now entered the race for the acquisition of the DR Congo international. Financial expert Stefan Borson believes this development demonstrates that Newcastle and Saudi Pro League clubs are not operating as a single entity.
“I never considered this conspiracy theory realistic. But it does point to a split within the PIF between the Saudi direction and the Newcastle arm. If that’s the case, Newcastle can’t complain—it’s just the way things are.
From the outside, it looks unexpected, but there’s no right to complain. These are just arm’s length negotiations. They’re like everyone else. It’s surprising, of course, but it’s one of the challenges Newcastle will have to deal with. It’s another issue the club will face this summer.”
Last season, Wissa featured in 39 matches across all competitions for Brentford, netting an impressive 20 goals and providing 5 assists.
Yoane Wissa’s current contract with Brentford is expected to elapse next summer. Brentford risk losing the forward free if he is not transferred this summer.
