Al‑Shabab FC have appointed Noureddine Ben Zekri as their new head coach following a turbulent spell on the bench.
The Saudi club had been without a manager since the dismissal of Imanol Alguacil, who left after a heavy 5-2 defeat against Al‑Ahli Saudi FC in the Saudi Pro League.
Club officials opted for an immediate change in an attempt to reorganise the team’s structure and restore stability to results.
Ben Zekri, 61, now takes charge of preparations at a moment when Al-Shabab are seeking consistency in performances.
The appointment marks a fresh start for a side currently positioned 14th in the league standings.
The Algerian coach arrives with extensive knowledge of football in Saudi Arabia.
He has previously managed Damac FC, Al‑Kholood Club and Al‑Akhdoud Club, giving him familiarity with the league’s competitive demands and environment.
That experience is seen by the club as essential in helping the team recover momentum during the remainder of the campaign.
Before his appointment, Ben Zekri had also been linked with the vacant coaching position at Zamalek SC, but he ultimately chose to join Al-Shabab instead.
The decision begins a new chapter for the Riyadh-based side as they attempt to steady their season after recent setbacks.
Club management hope the experienced coach can quickly establish tactical organisation and guide the team away from the lower end of the table.
