Benatia will leave Marseille at the end of the season

Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad Club are reportedly interested in appointing former Morocco national football team defender Mehdi Benatia as their new sporting director.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Benatia has received an official offer from the Saudi giants to take over the role ahead of next season.

“Mehdi Benatia has received an offer to take over as the new sporting director of Al-Ittihad Club,” Romano posted.

Changes expected at Al-Ittihad

According to the report, current sporting director Ramon Planes is preparing to leave the club in favour of a new project in Europe, with Benatia emerging as one of the leading candidates to replace him.

Al-Ittihad are expected to make key structural changes following a disappointing league campaign.

The Saudi club currently sit fifth in the Roshan Saudi League standings with 52 points.

Benatia facing uncertain future at Marseille

Benatia’s future at Olympique de Marseille has become increasingly uncertain in recent weeks.

Reports suggest the former Moroccan international could depart the French club at the end of the season following disagreements with members of the club’s management.

The 38-year-old has been working as Marseille’s sporting director and has played an important role in the club’s transfer strategy.

Roma also monitoring Benatia situation

Benatia has also been linked with a possible return to AS Roma, where he previously enjoyed a successful spell during his playing career.

The Moroccan is believed to remain highly respected within the Italian club because of his past contributions and leadership during his time in Serie A.
