Ismaila Sarr among most underrated Premier League players – Hughes
Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes has lavished praise on Ismaila Sarr, describing the winger as one of the Premier League’s most underrated talents.
Sarr’s two-goal performance against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League helped Palace secure a quarterfinal spot, and Hughes believes his teammate’s contributions deserve wider recognition.
“We’re just speaking about this in the changing room. A couple of lads said he’s phenomenal. He’s so underrated,” Hughes said. “Not only in our team I think, but in football in general. What he produces week in, week out, over a number of years now, it’s been incredible really.”
Hughes highlighted Sarr’s combination of humility and quality as a key reason for his consistent impact.
“I’d say he’s probably one of the first names on the team sheet for us. He’s such a humble guy and ultimately that’s the main thing. The quality he’s got, it’s brilliant,” Hughes added, underscoring the Senegalese forward’s importance to the squad.
Beyond individual performances, Hughes also praised the team’s cohesion, which he sees as a foundation for Palace’s recent successes.
“I always speak highly of this group of players and that’s not just a cliché answer. It’s a very close-knit group. Everyone gets on with each other. There’s no real bad eggs so to speak. I think that’s been a big part of why we’ve been successful,” he told Palace’s official website.
Sarr’s rising stock at Selhurst Park has been marked by his speed, technical ability, and goal-scoring instinct, yet he often flies under the radar in broader Premier League discussions.
