Santos urges belief as AS FAR chase historic comeback in CAF Champions League final second leg
AS FAR head coach Alexandre Santos has called on his players and supporters to believe in a famous turnaround as the Moroccan side prepare to host Mamelodi Sundowns in the decisive second leg of the CAF Champions League final in Rabat on Sunday.
Trailing after the first leg in Pretoria, AS FAR face a demanding task on home soil at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where a packed crowd is expected to fuel their bid for a dramatic reversal and a first continental crown since 1985.
Santos struck a tone of conviction and urgency as he outlined his side’s mindset heading into the showdown.
“The most important thing is that we go to our home confident of getting the result and scoring the goals to win the title and fight until the end. We know we have our fans and our style of play, and anything is possible,” he said.
The AS FAR coach stressed that his squad fully understands the magnitude of the occasion and the opportunity at stake against a seasoned Sundowns side.
“All the players in the team realise that we have a real opportunity to face Sundowns and achieve what we want, which is to score, turn the result around and snatch the title. That is the most important thing,” Santos added.
He also reserved warm words for the club’s supporters, who are expected to create an intense atmosphere in Rabat as they push the team towards a potential historic night.
“I say to our loyal fans, thank you for your continued support in all circumstances. You are our true source of strength, and we promise that we will fight with spirit and responsibility to make you happy and honour the Royal Army jersey,” he said.
The second leg against AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns is set for Sunday, 24 May 2026, with kick-off at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) in Rabat, where everything will be decided in African club football’s premier competition.
