Santos highlights team spirit and belief as AS FAR eye Sundowns showdown in CAF Champions League final first leg
AS FAR head coach Alexandre Santos has placed strong emphasis on unity and mentality within his squad as they prepare for a high-stakes first leg of the CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns in Tshwane.
Reflecting on the demands of African football at this level, Santos acknowledged the value of experience but insisted that collective spirit and ambition remain the driving forces behind his team’s push for continental glory.
“Of course, experience is an important factor in matches like these,” Santos said. “We have players who have lived through African competitions and know how to deal with pressure. But for me, the most important thing is the team spirit and the great desire I see in all the players to achieve this dream.”
The Moroccan side, AS FAR, head into the final with belief built on a blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging talent, as they target a historic triumph in Africa’s premier club competition, the CAF Champions League.
The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, 17 May 2026, at Tshwane Stadium in South Africa, with kick-off set for 16h00 local time (14h00 GMT), setting the stage for a tightly contested opening chapter in the final.
Both sides are expected to approach the encounter with caution and intensity, aware that the outcome of the two-legged tie could hinge on fine margins and moments of individual quality.
