Santos backs AS FAR comeback push ahead of CAF Champions League final second leg against Sundowns
AS FAR head coach Alexandre Santos has urged his players to embrace belief and deliver a decisive response when they host Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final on Sunday in Rabat.
The Moroccan side head into the return fixture determined to overturn the tie on home soil after a 1-0 loss in the first leg last Sunday, with Santos insisting his squad remains fully focused on completing the job in front of their supporters.
“The most important thing is that we go to our home confident of getting the result and scoring the goals to win the title and fight until the end,” AS FAR coach Alexandre Santos said.
He stressed the importance of home advantage and collective belief as AS FAR prepare for a high-stakes showdown against the South African champions.
“We know we have our fans and our style of play, and anything is possible,” he added.
Santos believes his team still has everything to play for, with the squad motivated by the opportunity to produce a turnaround in one of African football’s biggest fixtures.
“All the players in the team realise that we have a real opportunity to face Sundowns and achieve what we want, which is to score, turn the result around and snatch the title. That is the most important thing.”
The Portuguese coach also paid tribute to AS FAR’s supporters, praising their loyalty and urging them to continue backing the team as they chase continental glory.
“I say to our loyal fans, thank you for your continued support in all circumstances. You are our true source of strength, and we promise that we will fight with spirit and responsibility to make you happy and honour the Royal Army jersey.”
The decisive second leg will be played at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat on Sunday, 24 May 2026, with kick-off set for 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT), as both sides battle for Africa’s most prestigious club trophy.
