Samy Merzouk: Franco-Algerian goalkeeper joins AEL Limassol on free transfer from Lille

AEL Limassol have signed Franco-Algerian goalkeeper Samy Merzouk from LOSC Lille B on a free transfer. The 19-year-old has agreed a deal with the Cypriot club running until 31 May 2029, completing a long-term move away from France.

Merzouk, who holds both Algerian and French nationality, arrives in Limassol after progressing through the youth system at Lille. The 1.87m tall keeper moves from France’s fourth tier, where Lille’s reserve side compete, to the Cypriot top flight as he seeks his first opportunity in a senior first-team environment.

Born in Evreux in September 2006, Merzouk has come through successive age groups at Lille, stepping up from the under-17s to the under-19s in 2023 before being promoted to the club’s B team ahead of the 2025-26 season. His switch to AEL Limassol marks his first move outside French football.

AEL, competing in the Cyprus League, have moved to secure the right-footed goalkeeper on a free as they reshape their squad for the new campaign. The length of the contract underlines the club’s commitment to integrating Merzouk into their long-term plans.

The transfer was completed on 30 July 2026, with Merzouk officially joining AEL Limassol on a free transfer from LOSC Lille B.
