Samy Frioui: Algeria striker joins Hidd SCC on free transfer from Al-Muharraq

Algerian centre-forward Samy Frioui has joined Bahraini side Hidd SCC on a free transfer from domestic champions Al-Muharraq.

The 34-year-old moves across Bahrain after helping Al-Muharraq secure the league title in the 2026 season, adding another trophy to an honours list that already includes championships in both Algeria and Bahrain. The deal sees Hidd bring in an experienced goalscorer who has been a regular presence in top-flight football in North Africa and the Gulf.

Frioui, born in Kouba and standing at 1.80m, has built a reputation as a consistent scorer, particularly during his time in Algeria’s Ligue 1. Across 131 appearances in the division, he has recorded 57 goals and 11 assists, averaging a goal roughly every two matches. He was also the league’s top scorer in the 2021-22 season with 17 goals.

Before his spell at Al-Muharraq, Frioui played in Bahrain for Al-Najma, Al-Riffa and Al-Khaldiya, having first moved to the country in 2022 after a productive stint with MC Alger. His earlier career included a league title with USM Alger and a brief adventure in Greece with AE Larisa.

In Bahrain, he has already collected the Bahraini Supercup with Al-Khaldiya, followed by the King’s Cup and league championship with Al-Muharraq, underlining his habit of contributing in successful teams.

Frioui’s switch to Hidd SCC is a permanent free transfer, completed on 20 July 2026.
