Samuel Umtiti urges Marseille to give Habib Beye a full season

Samuel Umtiti has called on Marseille’s hierarchy to give Habib Beye a proper chance by keeping him in charge for a full season with a refreshed squad.

Speaking on the After Foot show, the former Barcelona defender argued that the Senegalese coach walked into chaos and deserves time to build his own project.

“When Habib Beye arrived, it was a complete mess. If I were the Marseille management, I would give him the opportunity to start a new season with a new group, to see how it goes,” Umtiti explained, highlighting the difficult context Beye inherited.

Beye only took over a few months ago, following the death of Roberto De Zerbi, at a moment when the club had, in Umtiti’s words, “completely lost it.” For Umtiti, that turbulence makes it unfair to judge Beye solely on short-term results. He believes continuity and a rebuilt dressing room would give the coach the conditions needed to show his true ability on the Marseille bench.

Marseille has qualified to play in next season’s UEFA Europa League. They booked their ticket after beating Rennes 3-1 at the Orange Velodrome yesterday.
