Samuel Eto’o takes legal action against CAF in face of allegations
The President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), Samuel Eto’o, addressed a range of accusations against him, breaking his silence on the ongoing controversies. Eto’o, a football legend turned administrator, responded to allegations of abuse of power, physical threats, and match-fixing in a local championship match, which surfaced through an audio recording involving the president of Victoria United.
During the interview, Eto’o highlighted his surprise at the investigation initiated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last summer, asserting, “I have never been questioned.”
He emphasized that despite the announcement of an open investigation, he was never approached for clarification regarding the accusations leveled against him.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Eto’o criticized CAF’s handling of the matter, stating, “It’s unacceptable.” He further clarified his stance, asserting, “For over 22 years, the only thing I knew how to do was play football.
For those who followed my career, I was a player who always respected fair play. It is not by becoming president that I will change this attitude that I had.”
Eto’o, renowned for his stellar football career, expressed his commitment to integrity and fair play, challenging the accusations that have marred his reputation.
In response to the unfolding situation, he has taken a decisive step, stating, “I have instructed my lawyers to file a complaint against the CAF so that responsibilities can be established.”
In light of his legal action against CAF, Eto’o underscored the significance of respecting the values he has upheld throughout his football journey.
He lamented the potential damage to his legacy, emphasizing, “It’s too easy to sully everything I have built during these few years in the world of football.”
The legal proceedings initiated by Eto’o indicate his determination to address the allegations head-on and seek accountability in the pursuit of justice.
