Samsunspor’s European campaign came to an end despite a determined display and a second-leg goal from Chérif Ndiaye, as they were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate by Rayo Vallecano.

The Turkish side travelled to Spain needing to overturn a first-leg deficit but were unable to do so, even after Ndiaye’s second-half strike gave them hope at the Estadio Vallecas on Thursday.

Starting the match with attacking intent, Samsunspor relied heavily on Ndiaye and Marius Mouandilmadji, who led the line with energy and purpose.

Both players were central to their side’s forward play, testing the opposition defence and pushing for a breakthrough that could revive their chances of progression.

Their efforts were eventually rewarded in the 65th minute when Ndiaye found the net with a well-taken finish, assisted by a teammate.

The goal briefly shifted momentum in favour of the visitors, who continued to press in search of further scoring opportunities.

However, the result across both legs had already placed Samsunspor in a difficult position.

Rayo Vallecano’s 3-1 advantage from the first meeting ultimately proved decisive, leaving the Turkish club with too much ground to make up despite their improved performance in the return fixture.

Mouandilmadji also played a key role throughout the encounter, contributing to several attacking moves and linking up effectively with Ndiaye.

Yet, their combined efforts were not enough to alter the overall outcome.

As the final whistle confirmed their elimination, Samsunspor’s European journey concluded at the Round of 16 stage.

Despite the disappointment, the performance of their attacking duo provided a measure of encouragement, even as their continental ambitions came to an end.
