Samir Nasri, who rose to prominence during his time at Olympique de Marseille from 2004 to 2008 before moving to Arsenal in 2009, reflected on his connection with France in a recent interview with the English newspaper “Telegraph.” The French international, of Algerian descent, expressed concerns about the negative perception of professional footballers in France, particularly amidst the country’s economic crisis.

Nasri lamented that footballers are often viewed as having excessive wealth and displaying arrogance and misconduct. He noted that this perception is exacerbated for those from certain communities, indicating a significant shift in France’s societal landscape, which he finds troubling.

Expressing his affection for England and London, Nasri emphasized that he feels a sense of empowerment in the English capital, envisioning it as the place for his future. However, he acknowledged that his chances of participating in the 2014 World Cup with the French national team, coached by Didier Deschamps, are uncertain.

Nasri indicated that he would appreciate an honest discussion with Deschamps to assess his prospects realistically. He acknowledged the need to address any shortcomings and make necessary changes to enhance his chances of being selected for the World Cup squad.
