Morocco’s Samir El Mourabet agrees personal terms with RB Leipzig

Morocco midfielder Samir El Mourabet has agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig as the German club move closer to signing the highly rated youngster from Strasbourg.

According to Foot Mercato, the 20-year-old has accepted Leipzig’s offer after negotiations progressed significantly in recent hours.

The transfer is not yet complete, however, with Leipzig still needing to reach an agreement with Strasbourg over the fee for the Moroccan defensive midfielder.

Leipzig impressed by Moroccan youngster

The pursuit of El Mourabet fits Leipzig’s long-standing strategy of identifying promising young players and providing them with a platform to develop at the highest level.

El Mourabet enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign, establishing himself as an important member of Strasbourg’s first team.

He made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists.

The Morocco international also featured prominently in Ligue 1, making 33 appearances and playing more than 2,100 minutes.

He added another 10 appearances in the UEFA Conference League, further increasing his experience at senior level.

Strasbourg hold key to transfer

While personal terms have been agreed, Leipzig must now convince Strasbourg to accept their financial proposal.

Further discussions between the two clubs are expected, with the Bundesliga side keen to complete the deal while Strasbourg are expected to remain firm over their valuation of the midfielder.

El Mourabet’s performances have made him one of the promising young talents to emerge from French football, and Leipzig see him as a player capable of continuing his development in Germany.

Leipzig strengthen squad after Diomandé exit

Leipzig are also working on a deal for Diego Moreira, with personal terms reportedly agreed with the player.

The German club are looking to strengthen their squad following the departure of Yan Diomandé to Real Madrid.

The significant fee received from Diomandé’s transfer has strengthened Leipzig’s financial position and could help the club meet Strasbourg’s demands for El Mourabet.

For the Moroccan midfielder, a move to Leipzig would represent another major step in his development and an opportunity to establish himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
