Samir Chergui faces uncertain Paris FC future after defensive reinforcements

Samir Chergui’s future at Paris FC appears increasingly uncertain after the club strengthened its defensive options during the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting the French side is now more willing to consider offers for the Algerian defender.

According to L’Équipe, Paris FC’s stance on Chergui has shifted in recent weeks, making a departure during the current transfer window a realistic possibility. The reported change comes as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new campaign.

Paris FC has significantly reinforced its defence with two new arrivals announced on Thursday. The club confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Emmanuel Mbemba, who has agreed a contract running until 2030, while 22-year-old Diego Coppola has joined on a deal lasting until 2031.

Coppola’s transfer represents a major investment by the club, with Paris FC paying Brighton an initial €16 million, while a further €4 million could be added through performance-related bonuses.

The arrival of the two defenders is expected to increase competition for places in the back line and reduce Chergui’s opportunities for regular first-team football.

The defender has already endured a difficult period following an injury-disrupted campaign. During the 2025-26 season, the Algerian international was restricted to just 15 Ligue 1 appearances after suffering a serious hamstring injury in December.

The setback kept Chergui out of action for more than four months, preventing him from building momentum during a crucial stage of the season.

His involvement on the international stage has also been limited. Representing Algeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Chergui played only 20 minutes in his country’s match against Austria.

Taken together, those circumstances have fuelled speculation that the defender could seek a move away from Paris FC in search of greater playing opportunities.

With increased competition in the squad, limited appearances over the past season and reduced international involvement, Chergui now faces an important decision over the next step in his career as the summer transfer window continues.
