Injury Blow for Hertha Berlin as Sami Allagui Faces Months on Sidelines
Hertha Berlin have been dealt a significant setback with the news that Sami Allagui will be sidelined for several months following knee surgery.
The Tunisian striker sustained the injury during a pre-season friendly against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. After ongoing pain and medical assessment, the 29-year-old underwent a successful operation, but the recovery process is expected to be long.
“This is a big blow not only for Sami, but for the whole club,” admitted Michael Preetz, Hertha Berlin’s sporting director. “We’ll need to be patient and make sure there’s no rush with his return.”
Allagui’s absence leaves Hertha short on attacking options as they navigate the early stages of the Bundesliga season. The Berlin-based club currently sit 10th in the standings with four points from three matches, ahead of their upcoming fixture against VfB Stuttgart, who are still chasing their first point of the campaign.
The former Tunisia international, who has earned 27 caps and scored five goals for the Carthage Eagles, is now focused on his rehabilitation. Despite the disappointment, Allagui shared a message of resilience with fans via social media.
“Danke für die vielen Genesungswünsche. Ich komme stärker wie zuvor zurück. Thank you for your support. I will come back stronger,” he wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo from his hospital bed.
Allagui, who joined Hertha Berlin in 2012, has been a key figure in the club’s attacking line-up, known for his mobility and work ethic. His leadership and experience will be missed both on and off the pitch in the coming months.
Hertha Berlin will now be counting on the likes of Julian Schieber and Salomon Kalou to step up as they aim to build momentum in the Bundesliga and stay clear of the relegation fight that troubled them last season.
