Sami Al-Jaber backs Al-Nassr to resist further transfer moves

Sami Al-Jaber has suggested Al-Nassr do not need to make any more signings after their impressive start to the Roshn Saudi League title defence, a view that has provoked a strong reaction among the club’s supporters.

Al-Nassr opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh on Saturday, producing an attacking performance that pleased their fans and offered an early indication of the team’s potential under Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

The result was made particularly notable by the contribution of several new arrivals, including Joao Felix, Angelo Gabriel and Samu Costa. However, despite the convincing opening win, many Al-Nassr supporters are still calling for the club to strengthen its squad before the transfer window closes.

Al-Nassr have completed only one foreign signing so far, with Portuguese midfielder Samu Costa joining from Real Mallorca. The club’s fans believe further additions are required to address remaining weaknesses and give the team the depth needed for a long season.

Al-Jaber, the former Al-Hilal forward and one of the most prominent figures in Saudi football, offered a different assessment after watching the victory over Al-Fateh.

“You cannot judge any team from the first rounds.. and Al-Nassr performed well and do not need to add players,” Al-Jaber said on the programme Nadeena.

His comments quickly prompted widespread discussion among Al-Nassr supporters. While some welcomed the positive assessment of the team, others argued that one strong performance should not persuade the club to abandon its plans for further recruitment.

Al-Jaber also praised the new identity being developed under Postecoglou, highlighting the difference between Saturday’s display and the football Al-Nassr produced last season.

“Al-Nassr’s play today is different from last season’s style and Al-Nassr are a strong club,” he said.

He added: “Al-Nassr’s level is different, they attack more strongly and the ball is faster.”

The remarks represented clear approval of the team’s first competitive performance under its new manager. They also intensified the debate over whether Al-Nassr should remain active in the transfer market, particularly with the campaign still at an early stage and more demanding fixtures to come.

Postecoglou’s side began their defence of the title with an emphatic result and an attacking display, but the challenges ahead are expected to become more difficult as the season progresses and the number of matches and competitions increases.

Al-Nassr’s management is continuing to build a squad capable of competing for every available trophy. The coming days will determine whether the club accepts Al-Jaber’s view and relies on its current players, or responds to supporters’ demands by pursuing more signings before the market closes.
