Malian midfielder Sambou Sissoko will remain at FK Čukarički for the remainder of the season despite interest from several European clubs during the winter transfer window.
The 24-year-old had attracted offers from Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb and Hungarian side FC Ujpest, but Čukarički opted to retain him until at least the summer.
Sporting director Vladimir Matijašević played a key role in the decision, prioritizing stability in the squad over an immediate transfer.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Sissoko confirmed the interest from other clubs but acknowledged that no agreement was reached between Čukarički and his potential suitors.
It’s true that many clubs wanted me.
Dinamo Zagreb and FC Ujpest made offers.
I just think that the clubs didn’t have an agreement with mine.
Also, I think that my club wants me to stay for the rest of the season.
I think that the sporting director (Vladimir Matijašević) just wanted me to finish the season here.
With his future temporarily settled, Sissoko is now concentrating on finishing the season strongly with Čukarički.
The midfielder, who has scored two goals and provided one assist in 23 appearances this campaign, remains hopeful that he will secure a move in the summer transfer window.
I’m aiming higher for the upcoming summer transfer window because there are quite a few clubs that have inquired with the agency about a possible transfer.
For now, I’m staying focused on my season at the club, with the goal of continuing to perform because I still have a contract until 2026.
So, we’ll see if they’ll come back for the next transfer window.
A key figure in Mali’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad in 2019, Sissoko has been with Čukarički since joining from Belgian club KV Kortrijk in 2022.
Since then, he has featured in 94 matches across all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists.
While his future remains uncertain beyond this season, Sissoko’s performances will be closely watched as he looks to secure a move to a higher-profile league in the near future.
