However, Ipswich Town quickly responded with an equalizer in the ninth minute, courtesy of a cross from Sam Morsy, which his teammate Wes Burns headed into the net.
The hosts added two more goals in the 14th and 29th minutes, scored by Kieffer Moore and Wes Burns, respectively.
In the second half, Rotherham managed to score their second goal in the 60th minute through Hakim Odofin.
The injury time saw significant drama as Rotherham scored their third goal, equalizing in the fourth minute of stoppage time through a penalty kick taken by Carlos Cavuto.
Nevertheless, Ipswich quickly regained the lead, scoring their fourth goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, courtesy of a strike from Omarie Hutchinson.
Sam Morsy, the team captain, played the full duration of the match and contributed to his team’s fourth goal of the season.
With this victory, Ipswich Town’s points tally rose to 69, placing them third in the standings, tied with Leeds United, but with the latter holding a superior goal difference.
Southampton follows closely behind with 67 points.
Meanwhile, Rotherham United remains at the bottom of the table in 24th place, with 19 points.
Leicester City currently leads the league with 78 points, with 13 rounds remaining in the competition.
The top two teams in the Championship automatically qualify for the Premier League, while teams from third to sixth place compete in a playoff to determine the final promotion spot to the English top flight.
