Saliou Guindo: Mali’s Young Jewel Ready to Shine with ASEC Mimosas
At just 18, Saliou Guindo is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young talents in West African football. The Malian U20 international, freshly loaned from Jeanne d’Arc de Bamako to ASEC Mimosas, is already making waves ahead of his first season in Ivory Coast’s Ligue 1.
Dubbed “The Prince of Ségou,” Guindo impressed during pre-season, netting 4 goals in 5 preparation matches, instantly winning over the fans and coaching staff.
“Guindo is a good striker. He has good technique, makes varied runs, and has a natural flair for creating chances,” said Alain Gouaméné, ASEC’s head coach and former Elephants goalkeeper.
Guindo played a crucial role in Mali’s qualification for the U20 African Cup of Nations 2015 and is now determined to continue progressing with his new club. Despite his potential, Gouaméné believes the young forward is still developing:
“He can create chances but still lacks the calm and composure of more experienced strikers. But he’s improving rapidly because he listens and works hard.”
Guindo himself remains humble and focused:
“The beginnings were difficult, but my teammates helped me and the coach trusted me. The working environment at ASEC is very professional. It’s different from what I knew in Ligue 2 with Jeanne d’Arc. I’ve learned a lot, and I want to make the most of this opportunity.”
With his talent, mentality, and growing experience, Saliou Guindo could be one of the breakout stars of the Ivorian league — and a future mainstay for Mali’s national team.
