Salah’s Trabzonspor exit sealed by Ferencvarosi collapse

Mohamed Salah’s European campaign with Trabzonspor ended in emphatic fashion as the Turkish club were beaten 4-0 by Ferencvarosi in the second leg of their Europa League qualifying tie.

Trabzonspor had already been defeated 1-0 at home in the first leg, leaving them with a 5-0 aggregate loss and ending their hopes of reaching the Europa League.

Salah started the second meeting at the Groupama Arena in Budapest but was unable to influence the contest before being substituted in the 64th minute. Video footage from the match showed the Egypt international leaving the field as Trabzonspor’s difficult evening continued.

The visitors were reduced to nine men during the match. Ruslan Malinovskyi was sent off in the 13th minute, while Sidney Lopez Cabral received a red card in the 57th minute.

Despite their numerical advantage, Ferencvarosi had to wait until the 19th minute to break the deadlock. Callum O’Dowda scored the opening goal to put the Hungarian side firmly in control of the tie.

Trabzonspor’s situation deteriorated further five minutes after half-time when Marius Corbu doubled the hosts’ lead in the 54th minute. A penalty followed in the 59th minute, with Yusuf Bamidele converting from the spot to make it 3-0.

Kristian Lisztes completed the scoring in the 86th minute, giving Ferencvarosi a 4-0 victory on the night and a commanding 5-0 success over the two legs.

The result means Trabzonspor will now continue their European campaign in the Conference League rather than the Europa League.

The match was accompanied by a series of video clips highlighting Ferencvarosi’s goals and Salah’s departure. One showed O’Dowda’s opener going past Trabzonspor goalkeeper Andre Onana, while another captured Corbu’s second goal as the pressure mounted on the Turkish side.

A further clip showed Bamidele’s penalty making the score 3-0, before Lisztes’ late strike completed Ferencvarosi’s four-goal victory. Another video focused on Salah’s substitution in the 64th minute.

Salah’s participation in the second leg had raised expectations that Trabzonspor could recover from their narrow home defeat, but the early dismissal of Malinovskyi left the visitors facing a difficult task for most of the match. The second red card, shown to Lopez Cabral shortly after Corbu’s goal, left Trabzonspor with only nine players and made a comeback impossible.

Ferencvarosi controlled the tie after O’Dowda’s opener and ultimately secured their progress with a comprehensive result in Budapest. Trabzonspor’s attention will now turn to the Conference League, where they will continue after failing to overturn the deficit from the first leg.
