Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has reportedly held detailed discussions with Besiktas head coach Vincenzo Italiano as the Turkish club steps up efforts to secure his signature during the summer transfer window.

According to reports in Turkey, the forward sought assurances over the club’s ambitions, squad strength and transfer plans before making any decision on his future.

Turkish outlet CNN Turk reported that Salah used the meeting to gain a clearer understanding of Besiktas’ plans for the upcoming season.

The Egyptian international is said to have asked about the composition of the squad, the club’s intended transfer activity and its objectives in both domestic and continental competitions.

Among the questions raised by Salah were who would be part of the squad and the players he would be expected to link up with in attack.

He also reportedly sought information on the team’s playing philosophy and its ambitions in European competitions, with the quality of the current squad and planned signings said to be key factors in his assessment.

Talks progressing positively

Besiktas are understood to be working to convince the 34-year-old that the club can build a competitive team capable of challenging for major honours.

The report added that negotiations between both parties have continued in a positive manner, with the Turkish club pressing ahead with plans to strengthen the squad while Salah closely monitors developments before making a final decision.
