Liverpool manager Arne Slott has jumped to the defence of Mohammed Salah ahead of the West Ham United showdown, stressing the Egyptian star has his own standards.

In a highly competitive clash this weekend, the Reds will play host to the Hammers in matchday 28 of the English Premier League.

Currently, Liverpool are in third place with 45 points, while West Ham are in eighteenth place with 25 points.

At the team gears up for the West Ham United clash, the former Feyenoord gaffer has heaped praises on Salah.

“Salah has set his own standards, they are so high that people are surprised when he doesn’t score.”

“This in itself is a great compliment, if we look at the FA Cup and although he scored against a league team, just three games ago he created and scored against Brighton, a strong Premier League team, and that’s the truth.”

“You can change the statistics and say that he hasn’t scored in nine league games, and that’s the standard Salah has set for himself. I think I should have talked in more detail about the performance, but this isn’t the right time for that.”

“We are used to Mo scoring goals and this is happening in my time too. I get questions about Salah not scoring for three or four games but he comes back and does it. He is not the only striker who is not scoring as much as he is used to, Hugo Eketiki and Cody Gakpo are the same. It is about the team as a whole.”

He concluded: “We want to keep a clean sheet so they don’t need to score many goals. We scored 6 goals against Qarabag and 4 against Newcastle”
