Salah family favour Saudi move after World Cup

Reports in England and Saudi Arabia claim Mohamed Salah’s family are leaning towards a switch to the Saudi Pro League once he leaves Liverpool this summer.

The Egyptian star has already confirmed he will depart Anfield at the end of the current campaign, bringing to a close a glittering nine-year spell that began back in 2017. His name has since been linked with big-money moves to both Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer in the United States.

According to a piece from English outlet TeamTalk, relayed by Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya, Salah is open to either option but those closest to him prefer a move to Saudi Arabia. The expectation is that any transfer would only be finalised after he represents Egypt at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Al Ittihad are currently viewed as the leading Saudi contenders, having long been associated with a move for the Liverpool forward. In MLS, San Diego, owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour, are seen as his most likely destination.

The situation echoes Lionel Messi’s 2023 decision, when he left Paris Saint‑Germain and ultimately chose Inter Miami over a mega offer from Saudi side Al Hilal.
