Didier Deschamps Explains Mamadou Sakho’s Absence from France Squad
Mamadou Sakho has been left out of Didier Deschamps’ squad for France’s upcoming matches against Portugal and Armenia, and the national team coach has provided some clarity on the decision.
Speaking at a press conference, Deschamps highlighted two key reasons:
Injury: Sakho is currently sidelined, which automatically rules him out of contention.
Lack of Game Time at Liverpool: Even when fit, Sakho has been struggling to earn playing time at Liverpool — at times not even making the matchday squad. Deschamps underlined the importance of regular club football:
“I am not worried today about Sakho. Right now, he is injured. Other players have limited playing time. It is still important to play.”
While Deschamps still seems to have faith in Sakho’s potential, his absence reflects the coach’s consistent policy of favoring players who are both fit and actively competing at club level.
