AS Saint-Étienne Confident in Romain Hamouma: Contract Extension Talks Underway
After a difficult start to the season plagued by injuries, Romain Hamouma is back in form with AS Saint-Étienne, and the club is keen to extend his stay. Currently under contract until June 2015, Hamouma confirmed in an interview with Le Progrès that talks have begun regarding a contract renewal.
“For the moment, we are talking very slowly. I have one year left on my contract. The staff, the president have asked to see my agent. It’s moving along. I’m happy at Saint-Étienne. I’m waiting to see what the club wants to do,” said the 27-year-old winger.
Hamouma’s return comes at an important time, with Les Verts sitting third in the Ligue 1 standings. The player is determined to help the club secure another European qualification, building on the project developed in recent years.
“The club is building something. Not qualifying [for Europe] would be penalizing. Once you’ve had a taste of it, you want to go back. It’s another championship to play, another level of experience,” he added.
AS Saint-Étienne sees Hamouma as an integral part of its ambitions, and fans will be hopeful that both sides find common ground to continue the journey together.
