Florentin Pogba Signs Contract Extension with Saint-Étienne
Guinea international Florentin Pogba has committed his future to AS Saint-Étienne, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2018.
The 25-year-old centre-back, whose previous deal was set to expire in June 2016, had attracted interest from several top-tier clubs across France and Europe. However, the defender has opted to remain with Les Verts, where he has steadily developed into a key figure at the heart of their defence.
This move comes as part of a broader strategy by Saint-Étienne to secure the core of their squad ahead of the new season. Just days ago, the club also tied down attacking midfielder Romain Hamouma to a new contract, signalling their intent to build stability within the squad.
Despite these positive developments, Saint-Étienne still face some reshuffling in the attacking department. The arrival of striker Nolan Roux from Lille is expected to strengthen the frontline, but further changes are anticipated as the club aims to sharpen its offensive edge in Ligue 1 and European competitions.
Pogba, the older brother of French international Paul Pogba, joined Saint-Étienne in 2012 and has since become a regular starter, praised for his physical presence, composure on the ball, and leadership qualities. His decision to extend his stay at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard is seen as a significant boost for Christophe Galtier’s side as they aim to improve on last season’s campaign.
With pre-season preparations well underway, Saint-Étienne appear focused on maintaining squad continuity while carefully reinforcing key areas, particularly in attack. The retention of players like Pogba and Hamouma signals a commitment to both experience and quality as they look to compete on multiple fronts in the months ahead.
