Bafétimbi Gomis Will Not Return to Saint-Étienne, Confirms Christophe Galtier
Despite persistent rumors, Bafétimbi Gomis will not be returning to AS Saint-Étienne this winter. The speculation surrounding a potential reunion between the Swansea City striker and his former club has been firmly dismissed by Christophe Galtier, the Saint-Étienne manager.
“This rumor comes up often because Bafé is attached to the club, to Saint-Étienne, to the people. Bafé is a good player, but the fact remains that we have two strikers. Mevlüt [Erding], who was injured, returned and scored 12 goals last season, and Ricky [van Wolfswinkel] is performing better and better,” Galtier stated.
He went on to explain that adding another striker could disrupt the balance in the squad:
“Not everything is perfect offensively, but creating traffic jams in one position is not really in my philosophy. Then there’s the financial aspect. I haven’t discussed it with Bafé, nor with any other player. There is no need.”
With that, the chapter of a potential Gomis comeback to Les Verts is closed—at least for now.
