Saint-Eloi Lupopo accused of fielding unqualified player against CS Manika

Democratic Republic of Congo club Saint-Eloi Lupopo is facing allegations of fielding an ineligible player in a recent Linafoot clash.

CS Manika lodged a formal complaint following Lupopo’s 1-0 victory, claiming that Burkinabe midfielder Dramane Kambou was suspended after a match against AS Maniema Union at the end of last season.

Manika argues the suspension should have carried over, insisting Lupopo breached league regulations and calling for disciplinary action.

Lupopo, however, has rejected the allegations, maintaining that Kambou was fully eligible to play in the October 30 encounter against Manika, according to FOOTRDC.

The Kinshasa-based side is already under scrutiny from CAF after a penalty shoot-out win over Orlando Pirates in last month’s Champions League.

The South African club had filed a complaint regarding player eligibility, which Lupopo has denied.

The Congolese club is set to begin its Champions League group stage campaign against South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
