Safwan Mbae: Racing Besancon sign Comoros defender on free transfer from Bourgoin-Jallieu

Racing Besancon have signed centre-back Safwan Mbae from FC Bourgoin-Jallieu on a free transfer ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The 29-year-old defender, who holds Comoros and French nationality, joins the Besancon club after one season with Bourgoin-Jallieu in French football. The move, completed on 5 July 2026, continues a career largely spent in Frances lower divisions, with the deal agreed without a transfer fee.

Mbae strengthens Racing Besancons options in central defence, arriving as a right-footed centre-back who stands at 1.83m. Born in Paris on 20 April 1997, he adds experience and physical presence to the back line, having accumulated a varied career across French and Spanish clubs.

Before his spell at Bourgoin-Jallieu, Mbae played for SO Chatellerault, joining them in July 2023 after a short period without a club earlier that year. He previously represented Sporting Club Setois and US Saint-Malo, building a consistent profile in the French game following his return from Spain.

Mbaes early career included time in Spain with CD Teruel and Villanueva de Gallego CF in the 2018-19 season. During that period, his market value peaked at 50,000 before later being recorded at zero the same year, underlining the fluctuations that have marked his career path.

He came through the youth ranks at AS Monaco, progressing from the under-17s to the under-19s and then the under-21 side between 2012 and 2018, after starting out with Montrouge FC 92 at youth level.

Mbae now begins the next chapter of his career with Racing Besancon following his free transfer from Bourgoin-Jallieu.
