President of the South African Football Association, Danny Jordan has heaped praise on the Banyana Banyana for their brave performance in the semifinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Banyana Banyana fell short to the Super Falcons following 2-1 in the high-stale clash held in Casablanca on Tuesday.
Rasheedat Ajibade gave the West African Nation a first-half lead before Linda Motlhalo responded after the break.
However, Michelle Alozie won it late for her team with a fortuitous long-range strike to help Nigeria set up a final with the hosts, who beat Ghana in a second game.
“Banyana Banyana fought very well, and it was a brave performance from the WAFCON defending champions”
“You have established yourselves as one of the best teams on the continent. We fought bravely and we are proud of your performance. Well done to the whole team, the team’s Head of Delegation Thabile Msomi, the coach Dr Desiree Ellis, the captain Refiloe Jane and all players. We are proud of your efforts.” He said.
Meanwhile, Danny Jordan has sent well wishes to Gabriela Salgado, who picked up a serious injury in the course of the match.
“First of all, we would like to wish a speedy recovery to Gabriela Salgado. We are all waiting to hear what the doctors have to say either tonight or tomorrow”
South Africa will now shift their attention to the third place match against West African outfit, Ghana.
