Stephen Keshi Linked to Bafana Bafana Coaching Role Amid Speculation
Recent reports across various media outlets have suggested that Stephen Keshi is a frontrunner to replace Gordon Igesund as head coach of South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana. However, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has moved to quell such rumors, clarifying that no official contact has been made with the Nigerian coach.
SAFA president Danny Jordan addressed the speculation directly, stating, “SAFA has not approached any coach for the position and will not remain indifferent to these rumors. This is not true, because SAFA has not entered into discussions with any coach or coach’s agent.”
Stephen Keshi, who recently ended his tenure as Nigeria’s national team coach, has reportedly expressed interest in the Bafana Bafana job. Sources indicate that Keshi, a former coach of Togo’s national team, submitted his CV to SAFA’s secretariat in a bid to be considered for the role.
While SAFA has not confirmed the future of Gordon Igesund, who is nearing the end of his contract, the federation has yet to make any formal decisions or announcements regarding his successor.
The search for a new coach continues amid growing anticipation from fans and stakeholders eager to see Bafana Bafana regain their competitive edge on the international stage.
