The South African Football Association (SAFA) has formally thrown its full support behind Gianni Infantino’s bid for re-election as FIFA President, ahead of the 2027–2031 term.

In a letter addressed to FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, SAFA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) confirmed its unanimous decision to nominate and endorse Infantino for another term at the helm of world football’s governing body.

Infantino, who first assumed the FIFA presidency in 2016, announced in April 2026 that he would seek a fourth term in office.

“Furthermore, we would like to clarify that the South African Football Association exclusively supports Mr. Gianni Infantino for the position of FIFA President and therefore will not sign any other declaration of support in favour of any other candidate for this position,” SAFA stated.

The NEC, which met over the weekend in Johannesburg, praised Infantino’s leadership, describing his tenure as successful and expressing confidence in his continued stewardship of global football.

The meeting, held at SAFA House and concluded on Sunday, 10 May 2026, ended on what officials described as a positive note, with members unanimously agreeing on the nomination.
