Sadio Mané urges calm after Senegal defeat to USA ahead of France clash
Sadio Mané has said Senegal will use their 3-2 defeat to the United States as a learning experience ahead of their upcoming preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The Senegal forward, who scored twice at the Bank of America Stadium, was one of the standout performers for his side despite the loss in their first warm-up match.
The result came as a setback for the African champions, who are continuing their build-up under Pape Thiaw and have concerns to address, particularly in defence.
Senegal’s performance showed both attacking quality and defensive fragility, with the team conceding three goals in a match that highlighted areas needing improvement ahead of more demanding fixtures.
The defeat comes with just two weeks remaining before their anticipated meeting with France, a match expected to be a key test of their readiness.
Despite the result, Mané remained composed in his post-match assessment, stressing that the outcome should not be viewed negatively but rather as a useful benchmark for the team’s progress.
“There’s no problem. We would have liked to win, but there’s no issue . This match will allow us to know where we stand before our match against France. But what is certain is that we will be ready before the start of the competition, ” he said in the mixed zone.
The forward, affectionately known as “Nianthio”, suggested that the encounter provided valuable insight into Senegal’s current level and what must be corrected before the World Cup begins.
While disappointed not to secure a positive result, Senegal’s focus now shifts to refining their tactical approach and tightening defensive organisation ahead of a challenging international schedule.
The team’s coaching staff are expected to analyse the performance in detail as they prepare for their next fixtures, with expectations high that the squad will respond positively before the tournament kicks off.
