Sadio Mané closes in on Saudi league title with Al-Nassr

Senegalese forward Sadio Mané could secure one of the biggest trophies of his Saudi Arabian career this week as Al-Nassr FC move closer to winning the Saudi Pro League title.

The Riyadh club head into a decisive clash against long-time rivals Al Hilal SFC knowing that victory would confirm them as league champions with two matches still remaining in the season.

Mané and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo have played key roles in Al-Nassr’s title challenge, with the club currently holding a five-point advantage over Al-Hilal at the top of the table.

A win in Tuesday’s encounter would therefore be enough to mathematically secure the championship and hand Mané a major domestic trophy since his move to Saudi Arabia.

The Senegal international joined Al-Nassr with high expectations but has so far experienced mixed fortunes in terms of silverware.

Since arriving at the club, Mané has only lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023 despite several attempts to challenge for the league title, national cup and Saudi Super Cup.

In recent seasons, Al-Nassr have repeatedly fallen short against Al-Hilal, who have often emerged as the dominant force in Saudi football.

Last season, Al-Hilal finished comfortably ahead of Al-Nassr in the title race, adding further significance to the latest meeting between the two clubs.

The upcoming match also carries additional interest because of the presence of Karim Benzema, who now plays for Al-Hilal.

The French striker and Mané are both established figures in world football after enjoying successful careers in Europe before moving to Saudi Arabia.

For Mané, the occasion represents an opportunity to finally add another important trophy to his collection following a difficult period of near misses since his arrival in the Saudi Pro League.

The match is expected to attract major attention across international football as two of Saudi Arabia’s biggest clubs battle in a fixture that could ultimately decide the destination of the league title.
