Sadik Fofana set for potential move to Eredivisie amid lack of playing time at Bayer Leverkusen

Togolese international defender Sadik Fofana is reportedly on the verge of leaving Bayer Leverkusen, with Dutch club Willem II expressing strong interest in securing his services. The 21-year-old has struggled for playing time under Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, prompting speculation that a move to the Eredivisie could be on the horizon.

Fofana, who has yet to feature in any of Leverkusen’s matches this season, is looking for more opportunities on the field, and a transfer appears imminent.

With his current contract at Bayer set to expire in June 2025, the German club has shown little urgency in offering an extension, further fueling talks of his departure.

Willem II, currently sitting fifth in the Eredivisie standings, has emerged as the frontrunner for Fofana’s signature.

According to reports from 228Foot, the Dutch side has already opened negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen and is offering Fofana a four-year deal with a salary that surpasses his current earnings in Germany.

This would mark a return to the Netherlands for Fofana, who spent last season on loan at Fortuna Sittard, where he gained valuable experience in the Eredivisie.

Despite his limited appearances at Leverkusen, Fofana remains a highly rated prospect, with Transfermarkt currently valuing him at €500,000.

The young defender’s time at Leverkusen has been challenging, with competition for places in the team’s defensive setup proving tough to break through.

However, a move to Willem II could offer him the platform to showcase his abilities and develop further in one of Europe’s competitive leagues.

The potential transfer comes as Bayer Leverkusen prepares for their upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Wolfsburg.

While Fofana’s immediate future remains uncertain, the odds of him featuring in the match are slim, given his lack of involvement this season.

As Fofana considers his next steps, the move to Willem II offers a fresh start and the chance to reignite his career.

The Dutch side, eager to bolster their defensive options, could provide the perfect environment for Fofana to secure regular playing time and re-establish himself on the European stage.

For now, the young defender’s focus will likely shift to finalizing terms with Willem II as both clubs look to reach an agreement in the coming days.
