Sacked Cameroon coach Marc Brys admits travelling to Morocco for AFCON 2025 is pointless

Former Cameroon head coach Marc Brys has admitted there is no point for him to travel to Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following his dismissal by the Cameroonian Football Federation.

Brys was relieved of his duties shortly after Samuel Eto’o’s re-election as Fecafoot president, yet the Belgian coach maintains that he has never officially been informed of his sacking. According to Brys, neither the federation nor the Ministry of Sports, which he describes as his formal employer, has issued any written or verbal notification confirming his dismissal.

The uncertainty surrounding his status has only deepened in recent days. In the midst of the uncertainty, Brys revealed that his attempt to secure travel arrangements for the AFCON tournament, scheduled to run from December 21 to January 18 in Morocco, was unsuccessful.

“I emailed two people at the Ministry of Sports to request a plane ticket to Morocco, and I haven’t received a clear answer. They’re both (the Ministry of Sports and the Cameroonian Football Federation) passing the buck. Officially, no one has told me I’ve been fired. Neither verbally nor in writing. But since I haven’t received my plane tickets… You don’t have to be stupid to do that… And no, Eto’o hasn’t contacted me either,” Brys said.

With Brys now resigned to the situation, Cameroon will head into the AFCON under new head coach David Pagou.

The Indomitable Lions have been drawn in Group F and will open their campaign against Gabon on December 24, before facing Ivory Coast on December 28 and Mozambique on December 31.
