Ryad Mahrez has added another accolade to his growing collection. Just weeks after being named the Premier League’s best newcomer, the Leicester City star was voted Algeria’s Golden Ball winner on Sunday.
The award, organized annually by Algerian sports daily *Le Buteur*, is decided by journalists and recognizes the country’s best footballer of the year.
Mahrez, who has been one of the revelations of the Premier League season with 13 goals and 8 assists so far, received 29.51% of the vote. He narrowly edged out FC Porto midfielder Yacine Brahimi (28.84%), while Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani came third with 17.38%.
The recognition caps a remarkable year for Mahrez, whose performances have helped Leicester mount a stunning challenge at the top of the English Premier League. The winger’s flair, dribbling ability and decisive contributions have seen him become one of the most feared attackers in England.
Other awards were also presented during the ceremony. Egyptian legend Mohamed Abou Treika was honored with a lifetime achievement award, acknowledging his outstanding career and impact on African football.
The Algerian Golden Ball, launched by *Le Buteur*, has become one of the country’s most prestigious football honors, regularly celebrating the brightest talents both at home and abroad.
