Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame was among the distinguished guests at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

He attended the match alongside CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, as Morocco faced Senegal in a high-stakes showdown for continental glory.

After a tense 120 minutes of football, Senegal emerged victorious, claiming their second AFCON title with a 1–0 win over hosts Morocco.

The match was decided in the opening minutes of extra time when Senegal’s Pape Gueye produced a spectacular left-footed strike from the edge of the box, sending the visiting team’s bench into celebration and leaving the stadium stunned.

Morocco had come close to breaking the deadlock in regulation time after being awarded a late penalty following a VAR review.

However, Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy denied Brahim Diaz, saving the spot-kick and forcing the game into extra time.

The next edition of AFCON will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
