Al Hilal head coach Laurențiu Reghecampf has expressed unwavering confidence ahead of Friday night’s CAF Champions League Group C showdown against MC Alger, a fixture that could derail Mamelodi Sundowns assistant Rulani Mokwena’s hopes of progressing in the competition this season.
The Sudanese giants travel to Algeria knowing a victory would confirm their place in the knockout stages, while MC Alger seek a win to keep their qualification hopes alive, contingent on the result between Sundowns and Saint-Eloi Lupopo.
Al Hilal currently top the group with eight points, three ahead of Sundowns and four clear of MC Alger and Lupopo, with just two matches remaining.
Reghecampf, who previously managed Esperance de Tunis, stressed his focus is squarely on preparing his own side rather than the stakes for their opponents.
“I think we are ready. We came here to do our job. All of our players are ready for tomorrow’s game, and I hope we can play a good match,” he said.
The Romanian tactician praised the competitive quality of MC Alger and the atmosphere they create for visiting teams.
“We like this challenge. We like your fans, your stadium, and your team. They play real football, and that’s something we try to do as well. For me, it’s a pleasure to be involved in games like this,” he added.
Reghecampf emphasized that performance on the pitch will ultimately decide the outcome, not pre-match talk.
“In every game, you have to fight. You have to show things on the pitch. What we say here doesn’t really matter, what matters is what the players do on the field. From my side, I trust my players. I trust the way they play football, and I know their level,” he said.
He concluded: “No matter what happens at the end of the game, we will do everything we can to win points. But this is football, anything can happen.”
