Rulani Mokwena has continued his impressive start at Pyramids FC after guiding the Egyptian side to a 4-1 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday.
The South African coach has now won all nine of his official matches since taking charge of the club, underlining his strong start in Egyptian football.
Monday’s victory extended Pyramids’ winning run in the league to six matches and moved them to 18 points, two clear of defending champions Al Ahly at the top of the standings.
Al Ahly sit second with 16 points, while Zamalek are third on 13 points.
Mokwena’s winning streak has extended beyond domestic league football, with Pyramids also recording two victories in the CAF Champions League and another win in the Egypt League Cup.
The 39-year-old has quickly established a winning culture at the New Cairo-based club, with his team delivering consistent results across competitions since his arrival.
His early success in Egypt has also revived memories of his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he enjoyed a successful spell and helped the South African giants maintain their dominance in domestic football.
During the 2023-24 season, Sundowns recorded a 29-match unbeaten run in the league under Mokwena’s guidance, highlighting the consistency the team displayed during his tenure.
Although his time at Pyramids is still in its early stages, the former Sundowns and Orlando Pirates coach will be encouraged by the results as he seeks to establish himself in Egyptian football.
Mokwena will now turn his attention to continental competition, with Pyramids scheduled to face South Sudanese side El Merreikh Bentiu in the CAF Champions League on Friday.
The Egyptian club will hope to carry its domestic form into the continental campaign as Mokwena targets a 10th consecutive victory and looks to extend his perfect record since taking charge.
