Ruben Amorim has heaped praise on Kobbie Mainoo, backing the teenager to become a cornerstone of Manchester United despite his limited minutes this season.
“Kobbie Mainoo has played in different positions,” Amorim told reporters before United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
“He can do Casemiro’s position. He can play if we play with three, he can play like we played in the last game at Aston Villa, the position of Mason Mount in that game, he can play there.”
Amorim stressed that the staff see a long-term star in the academy graduate. “He is going to be the future of Manchester United. That is my feeling. He just needs to wait for his chance. In football, everything can change in two days,” he added.
So far this season, Mainoo has yet to start a Premier League match, restricted to late cameos or remaining on the bench.
The English‑Ghanaian midfielder has also been heavily linked with a possible January move to Serie A side Napoli, adding another twist to his immediate future while United publicly talk up his long‑term importance.
