Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, addressed his decision to substitute debutant Patrick Dorgu at halftime during their 2-1 victory over Leicester City.
Amorim cited the young defender’s anxiety as a primary reason for the early change.
Dorgu, a 20-year-old Danish-Nigerian left-back, was deployed at right wing-back for his debut.
Despite showcasing his talent in the first half, he was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho at the interval.
The decision to position Dorgu on the right, despite his natural left-footedness, raised questions.
Amorim clarified that Dorgu had experience playing on the right in his previous team and emphasized the importance of versatility among his wingers.
“If you see the history of Dorgu in the last team he played a lot of games on the right,” Amorim added.
“We have to have wingers who can play both sides like Dalot. It’s a really important thing.
“Sometimes you need a left foot on the right side to come inside and connect in a different way, and sometimes you need a right-footer to connect and cross more balls.”
Dorgu, born in Copenhagen to Nigerian parents, has represented Denmark at various youth levels and progressed to the senior team.
