Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly approved the pursuit of Sporting CP’s 17-year-old sensation Geovany Quenda, a versatile left-footed player born in Guinea-Bissau.
The teenager, who has impressed this season with seven goal contributions in 39 appearances, is said to be a priority target for the summer transfer window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Quenda has been on United’s radar for months, with Amorim personally endorsing the move.
“Quenda is on the list for sure… he’s a player approved directly by Amorim,” Romano stated, emphasizing the manager’s confidence in the young talent.
Quenda previously played under Amorim at Sporting, where the coach handed him his first-team debut.
Known for his adaptability, Quenda can operate as a winger, wing-back, or forward on either flank.
His skill set aligns perfectly with Amorim’s tactical system at United, which heavily relies on wing-backs in a 3-4-3 formation.
With injuries to Amad Diallo and uncertainties surrounding players like Marcus Rashford and Antony, Quenda could play a crucial role in bolstering United’s options on the flanks.
Reports indicate that Manchester United have already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Quenda. However, negotiations over a transfer fee remain ongoing.
United value the player at €40 million, while Sporting is holding out for closer to €60 million, significantly below his €100 million release clause.
A pre-agreement before the summer window is reportedly being explored.
