RS Berkane face growing concerns before African Super Cup showdown

Renaissance Berkane, Morocco’s champions and last season’s CAF Confederation Cup winners, find themselves in troubling waters as fans grow increasingly anxious ahead of their crucial African Super Cup clash.

With less than two weeks before facing Egypt’s Pyramids FC at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo, several concerning factors have emerged that threaten their preparation.

The club has experienced a dramatic shift in fortunes after a promising start to the season. Following impressive victories against Olympic Dcheira (4-0) and Kawkab Marrakech (2-0), Berkane’s form has deteriorated alarmingly. Two consecutive draws, a shocking 3-3 home result against newly-promoted Ittihad Yakub Mansour and a 2-2 stalemate with Ittihad Twareg, have exposed serious defensive vulnerabilities.

These disappointing results cost Berkane their league-leading position for the first time in two years, surrendering top spot to traditional rivals Wydad Casablanca. The timing couldn’t be worse, as key players face injury concerns that could derail their continental ambitions.

Star playmaker Yassin Bahri, last season’s league MVP, remains sidelined with a serious ligament injury requiring surgery, ruling him out until early next year. International goalkeeper Munir El Mohammadi has also struggled with fitness issues following his return from national team duty.

Coach Moez Chaabani has responded by organizing intensive training camps in Egypt, hoping to restore confidence before their historic Champions League debut.
