Roony Bardghji undergoes surgery after suffering second ACL injury in right knee

Roony Bardghji has undergone surgery after suffering a serious injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Barcelona have confirmed.

The 20-year-old Sweden forward had the operation on Wednesday, following the injury he sustained recently. Barcelona previously announced that medical tests had diagnosed a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The setback is particularly difficult for Bardghji because it affects the same knee in which he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear during his time with Copenhagen.

Bardghji posted a brief message on social media after the operation, writing: “The comeback starts now”.

The injury comes after a season in which Bardghji had limited opportunities to play for Barcelona. The club had been looking for a new team for him, but he will now remain at Barcelona while he begins his recovery.

Several of his team-mates sent messages of support through social media after learning of the operation. Copenhagen, his former club, also offered encouragement to the Sweden international.

“Stay strong, Roony.. You’ve done it before, and you can do it again,” Copenhagen wrote on social media.

Barcelona are expected to issue a further statement soon with more details about Bardghji’s condition and the length of time he is likely to be unavailable for matches.

The latest injury represents another significant interruption to the young forward’s progress. Bardghji had already faced competition for playing time at Barcelona after a season in which he was not given many chances to feature.

His previous ACL injury occurred while he was playing for Copenhagen, before his move to Barcelona. The recurrence in the same knee means the club will now assess his rehabilitation carefully before determining when he can return to training and competitive football.

For now, Bardghji’s focus is on recovery following Wednesday’s procedure. His three-word message suggested that he intends to begin that process immediately, while support from Barcelona team-mates and Copenhagen highlighted the concern surrounding the injury.

Barcelona’s forthcoming update should clarify the nature of the operation, the next stages of his rehabilitation and the expected duration of his absence. Until then, no timescale for Bardghji’s return has been confirmed.
