Cristiano Ronaldo’s amused reaction to Jorge Jesus’ opening words captured attention as Portugal’s new manager took charge of his first training session with the national team.

Jesus previously coached Ronaldo at Al Nassr during the past season, guiding the Saudi club to the Roshn Saudi League title before leaving to become Portugal manager. Ronaldo was subsequently included in Jesus’ first squad for the national team’s training camp.

A video shared by Portugal’s official account on X showed Jesus addressing the players inside the gym during the opening session of his new tenure.

As the manager spoke, Ronaldo turned towards team-mate Diogo Dalot with a smile that appeared to reflect his appreciation of what the “Portuguese veteran” was saying.

The moment drew particular interest because of the strong relationship between Ronaldo and Jesus, which developed during the manager’s time at Al Nassr.

Ronaldo played a significant role in Jesus’ appointment at the Saudi club, with the Portugal captain reported to have contacted him by telephone before he took charge of the team.

Their reunion now comes as Jesus prepares for his first competitive matches as Portugal manager. He is scheduled to lead the side in their opening two Nations League fixtures against Wales and Norway.

Portugal will face Wales on 24 September before meeting Norway on 27 September.
