Romelu Lukaku transfer to Fenerbahce could be completed within 48 hours

Romelu Lukaku’s proposed move from Napoli to Fenerbahce is close to completion, according to Sky Sport Italia, with all parties confident the transfer can be finalised within the next 48 hours.

The 33-year-old Belgium international has reportedly reached an agreement with Fenerbahce over joining the Turkish club. Fenerbahce have also opened negotiations with Napoli as they work to complete a deal for the striker.

Turkish outlet HT Spor reports that Fenerbahce are trying to secure Lukaku’s transfer for a fee below $10m. Napoli are understood to be willing to consider selling the forward for about €10m, although his salary remains the main obstacle for any club attempting to sign him.

Lukaku earns €8m a year, a figure that could complicate the final stages of negotiations even if the two clubs reach an agreement over the transfer fee. The reports do not indicate that the salary issue has been resolved, but Fenerbahce are continuing discussions in an effort to complete the move.

Lukaku played a part in Napoli’s Serie A title triumph in the 2024-25 season. However, his importance to the team declined significantly during the following campaign as a result of injuries.

He made only five league appearances last season and is no longer regarded as a first-choice member of Napoli’s attack. The presence of Rasmus Højlund among the club’s attacking options has further reduced Lukaku’s prospects of returning to a central role in the team.

The reported agreement between Lukaku and Fenerbahce represents a significant step towards a transfer, but Napoli’s negotiations with the Turkish club and the question of the player’s wages still need to be settled. Sky Sport Italia says the parties remain confident that those issues can be resolved soon.

A move to Fenerbahce would take Lukaku into the Turkish league after his reduced involvement at Napoli. For now, the proposed transfer remains dependent on the clubs reaching final terms, with the fee and his €8m annual salary forming the key elements of the negotiations.
