Roma is actively exploring options to reinforce its defense as the club prepares for the expected departure of veteran centre-back Mats Hummels at the end of the season.
Among the primary targets under consideration is Udinese defender Oumar Solet, who has swiftly made an impression in Serie A since his arrival in January.
The French centre-back, who joined Udinese on a free transfer from Red Bull Salzburg, has quickly established himself as a key figure in the club’s defensive setup.
Since making the switch to Italy, Solet has featured in 10 matches for the Friulian side, earning praise for his strong defensive attributes and composure on the ball.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with both Roma and Napoli closely monitoring his progress.
Udinese sets high price tag
Reports from the Italian media indicate that Roma’s sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, is closely evaluating Solet as a long-term defensive option.
Udinese, aware of the growing interest in their player, has set an initial asking price of over €15 million, a valuation that could rise further depending on his continued performances this season.
Solet’s name is not new to Roma’s radar. The club had previously shown interest in signing the defender two years ago under former sporting director Tiago Pinto.
However, negotiations at the time did not materialize into a transfer. Now, with a pressing need to bolster their backline, Roma may renew their pursuit of the French defender in a bid to rejuvenate their defensive unit.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Roma’s recruitment team faces a crucial decision in securing the right profile to strengthen the squad.
Whether Solet will make the move to the capital remains to be seen, but his rising stock in Serie A makes him an appealing prospect for the Giallorossi.
